Dormouse Survey

The hazel or common dormouse is a woodland mammal most often associated with ancient woodlands and hazel coppices, although the species is also found within hedgerows where they link to woodland habitats. The species gets its name from its long hibernation period which lasts from October to April.
Because of its rarity and dependence on a rare habitat type, the dormouse is a European Protected Species and receives full protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
If you are planning a development project that could impact an area of woodland, hedgerow or scrub, a survey for hazel dormouse may be required for your development or planning application to proceed. We have experience of planning undertaking dormouse surveys on a range of projects, from residential development to mineral extraction.
