Habitat Surveys

A baseline habitat survey will form part of a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) and/or Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA). Windrush Ecology offers a range of habitat surveys and advice on appropriate methodologies and survey timings.

Habitat surveys are the basis of everything that we do. We use the UKHab system to categorise and evaluate habitats, as well as assessing their potential to support protected and notable species.

We undertake detailed botanical surveys, including National Vegetation Classification (NVC) surveys, to provide a detailed habitat baseline for ecological assessments.

Hedgerow surveys are essential for determining the ecological ‘importance’ of hedgerows and assessing potential impacts on these important habitats.

Ecological Habitat Surveys

A baseline habitat survey will employ the UK Habitat Classification method which is a standardised system for classifying and mapping habitats across the UK. Each habitat type is described and allocated a specific name, code, and a unique mapping symbology.

Other habitat surveys that we offer include botanical surveys, National Vegetation Classification (NVC) surveys & hedgerow surveys.
